At Rio+20 world leaders also agreed to establish a process to negotiate ‘Sustainable Development Goals’ by 2015. Like the Millennium Development Goals, which have been the focus for the international community’s efforts to reduce poverty, disease and child mortality, and to improve access to education, these ‘SDG’s will set the policy agenda for the decades to come. We need to ensure that safe and sustainable transport is one of these Goals.

By supporting the Zenani Mandela Campaign you can help to raise road safety higher on the international agenda, to urge better protection for all road users, and particularly for children, and to call for safe and sustainable transport to be a Sustainable Development Goal. In the run-up to the second United Nations Global Road Safety Week, 6-12 May 2013 - which will focus on safe walking for all – we are launching The Long Short Walk to campaign for the rights of children on the road to be recognised and urge greater investment in safe footpaths, cycle-ways and crossing points, on streets with lower speed limits, especially around schools.
