Arsenal fans joined their striker, Eduardo in supporting the Make Roads Safe campaign ahead of the Premiership win against Newcastle.
Make Roads Safe calls on the United Nations to take urgent action to tackle the growing problem of road deaths around the world and fans lined up to support the campaign before watching the match.
Before the game Arsenal striker Eduardo da Silva highlighted the need to take action around the world and encouraged football fans to support the campaign.
“Too many young people are injured and killed on the roads. The world needs to wake up to this problem and we need to tell the United Nations to make our roads safe. I’m proud that Arsenal fans have been signing the petition.”
Every day, 3000 people are killed in crashes and road deaths are now the number one killer of young people aged 10-24 worldwide. Over 600,000 people have signed the Make Roads Safe petition which will be handed to the UN in March.
The club follows FC Barcelona in backing the campaign. Other international footballers signing the petition include Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o, Lilian Thuram of France and Croatia midfielder Niko Kranjčar.
