Look Out, Zebra Crossing

A road safety zebra has been unveiled as the children’s mascot for the Make Roads Safe campaign.

MAKE ROADS SAFE launch

The zebra character will be the symbol of the campaign in schools around the world. Unveiled at a major road safety conference in Delhi, India, the zebra will also provide road safety education for younger schoolchildren , via an online game ‘Fantabulous International Adventures’ which will be launched to coincide with UN Global Road Safety Week in April 2007. In the game, the zebra will leave Africa to travel around the world helping animal friends to use the road safely.

An international school road safety poetry competition has been launched by the Make Roads Safe campaign to promote road safety, and the campaign’s messages, amongst children, teachers and parents. Children are also being asked to suggest a name for the zebra.

The zebra has been designed by road safety educational consultancy dbda, the recipient of the 2006 Premier Award of the Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards.
