Costa Rica campaign tops 100,000

Petition signing in Costa Rica

More than 100,000 people have already signed the Make Roads Safe petition in Costa Rica, in a campaign led by the country’s automobile club, transport ministry and the traffic police.

Following the launch of the campaign in San Jose in August, activities have been held around the country, in schools, hospitals and at public events. The most recent event was a rally calling for reform of road traffic legislation and support for the Make Roads Safe campaign, involving Members of Parliament, representatives of the Costa Rican road safety council, COSEVI, the automobile club, the fire brigade, road traffic police and people who have lost family members in road traffic accidents.

Costa Rica’s President, Oscar Arias, and transport minister, Karla Gonzalez, have both given their strong support to the campaign.
