Prime Minister of Peru Supports Make Roads Safe Campaign

The Peruvian Prime Minister, Jorge de Castillo, has attended the launch of Peru’s Make Roads Safe campaign.

The Make Roads Safe campaign was launched at an international road safety forum on 5th and 6th March organized by the Peruvian Roads Association, the Touring and Automobile Club of Peru and the Ministry for Transport. The Minister for Transport and Communications Dr Verónica Zavala signed the Make Roads Safe global petition and welcomed the Make Roads Safe campaign’s efforts to obtain recognition for road safety on a global level and secure technical and financial resources.

Peru has a vehicle population of only 1,300,000 and yet had a road traffic fatality rate of 3,300 in 2006. Prime Minister Jorge de Castillo announced that the Peruvian government will take on road safety as a priority issue this year.
