“Research has shown we can reduce significantly the tragic toll of road deaths in many settings around the globe. The challenge is translating those findings into successful and sustainable programs,” commented Dr. Harold (Hank) Weiss, PhD MPH, President, SAVIR.

SAVIR is devoted to promoting scholarly activity in injury control and addressing issues relevant to the prevention, acute care and rehabilitation of traumatic injury. These aims are achieved through multiple member activities in research, research dissemination, program development and evaluation, consultation, education and training.

International webinar series for UN Global Road Safety Week

As part of Global Road Safety Week, SAVIR, the University of Pittsburgh Center for Injury Research and Control (CIRCL), and other collaborators, will be hosting a one day series of international webinars presenting contemporary examples of research on traffic and motorcycle injuries from 4 different countries. The purpose is to highlight the role of research in global road traffic safety. Each researcher will present a 15 min overview of the nature of their work, the current status of their project and preliminary results, with follow-up discussion. All Webinars take place April 26th, 2007 and more information and registration details can be downloaded through the CIRCL seminar web page (http://www.circl.pitt.edu/home/seminars.htm). More information about SAVIR and the webinar can also be found at www.makeroadssafe.org and www.savirweb.org as Global Road Safety Week approaches.
